WHO DECORATED YOUR BONE CHINA?

I studied Ceramic Design at Central Saint Martins, covering all areas of ceramic process and pottery. My favourite aspect was decoration and it’s relationship with shape and form, and I really enjoyed screen printing with ceramic pigments. I unfortunately don’t screen print my own designs anymore, but use specialistic ceramic screen printers and digital ceramic printers in Stoke-on-Trent.

When I returned to my business part-time after having my oldest daughter, I realised I needed to use my time more wisely. I no longer had time to decorate just by myself. I also wanted to invest in screen printing some of my designs too. This was where my bone china supplier came in. Buttercup China not only produce bone china tableware, they also offer decorating services.

Buttercup now decorate the majority of my designs. And now when I develop a new design I make sure to streamline the decorating process and have the design ready for screen printing.

One design I still decorate myself are the colourful Confetti mugs. Each piece of colour is cut out and applied by hand, making each mug unique. They are a labour of love but soon I will work on the colourway for screen printing.

I also like to decorate my own samples, making sure I tweak my designs to each shape.

If you are curious to know who decorated your bone china, have a look at the bottom of your piece and check the backstamp.

The mug on the left hand side is my original backstamp that I use when I decorate a piece. The mug on the right hand side is my new backstamp which is used by factory.
