STAY AT HOME VALENTINE’S DAY IDEAS

So my birthday is the day after Valentine’s Day. Which means since being together my husband has had quite a task on his hands organising anything for my birthday, especially if it falls on a weekend. Now we have young children and the past couple of years being consumed by a global pandemic, staying at home is much more appealing! But that doesn’t mean you can’t make it special. Many high-end restaurants had to adapt to survive Covid so there are lots of fancy options you can have delivered to your door from companies like Dishpatch.

But you don’t have to have a fancy meal to make your Valentine’s Day special. Sometimes it’s the small gestures and details that mean more.

Breakfast in Bed

Start the day with breakfast in bed after a cheeky lie-in.

Warm up some shop bought pastries and serve with your favourite morning hot beverage.

Dress your table

Add a few simple flourishes to your dining table - matching plates and cutlery, candles, maybe a table runner or table cloth and add some flowers or foliage to create a dreamy dinner setting.

Create a cosy corner

Why not have dinner or dessert on the sofa? Drape fairy lights around and add some candles to create a cosy corner. Use large trays to serve up on the coffee table. Check out A Softer Edge for this gorgeous jesmonite and copper serving tray.

DIY Eton Mess Platter

Add an element of fun to dessert by creating a make your own Eton Mess Platter. No baking required as you can use all shop bought elements and pop them in small bowls and cups and place on a tray. You could swap the cream for ice-cream to make it extra indulgent.

Say it with flowers

Giving flowers on Valentine’s Day is very traditional, especially red roses. However your don’t have to give roses or even red flowers. You could pick something seasonal like ranunculus or chrysanthemums which both come in a variety of colours with some simple foliage.

Pimp up your after dinner coffee

If you want a super quick but chic dessert after dinner why not combine it with your after dinner coffee and make an Affogato? All you need is a small scoop of ice-cream in an espresso cup and top with coffee from a French press.

If you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your other half I hope you find these ideas useful. These ideas are also great for a Galentine’s or Palentine’s get together.
