PINTEREST, PAPER AND PEONIES
Since discovering Pinterest when I was wedding planning, I have spent endless hours pinning all sorts of ideas. What did we do before Pinterest? A common theme is crafts. I always have big plans for all the ideas I pin, but of course I never get round to it.
Last month my sister sent me a pin of a paper flower and by pure luck I saw an update on Quill London that they were holding their first workshops on paper flowers with A Petal Unfolds. It didn't take long for us to decide to book.
Flowers have always inspired me. I actually have a photo of me when I was little, playing with peonie petals that I had plucked from the garden.
Armed with scissors, crepe paper, wire and glue, our workshop consisted of a brief introduction to Susan and her work followed by demonstrations for each part of the flower constructions. The photos on her Etsy shop are stunning but when you see her work in the flesh the detail is phenomenal. It was really daunting making the first cuts into the crepe paper, but it was really exciting watching your flower grow in front of you. As you can imagine there was a little bit of sibling rivalry between my sister and me (you will notice I haven't posted a photo of her peony!). What was really satisfying about the evening was learning something new for enjoyment.
