DIY CHRISTMAS CRACKERS
So after a week of national lockdown in England for the second time, a few friends have started to embrace Christmas whilst they are at home. I’m actually tempted to put the tree up a week earlier than we usually do, for a bit of fun.
If you’re already bored of baking banana bread again (I have decent recipe on the blog if you’re not), why not have a go at making your own Christmas crackers. You can tailor make them to your festive colour scheme, add personal gifts and write your own jokes. I’ve included a monochrome cracker design you can print or you can use it as a template with your own paper.
What you need
Printer paper for template
Thick paper or card with your chosen design
Strong paper glue or double side tape
Ruler
Scissors
Ribbon or twine
Cracker snaps
Paper hats
Print out cracker design and cut out the outline.
Using the ruler fold along the middle of the diamonds, and then cut out.
When all the diamonds are cut out, fold along the tips of diamonds on both sides.
Stick double sided tape on the 3 tabs, don’t peel the backing off just yet.
Turn over and stick the cracker snap in place, before rolling the cracker shell.
Peel away the backing off the tape and overlap the opposite edge over the taped tabs.
Take a length of ribbon and tie a generous decorative bow before cutting.
Add your hat and gift, then tuck in the cracker snap so it doesn’t hang out the end.
Tie up the end with the ribbon.
