MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING
This weekend one of my oldest and dearest friends, Lucy, got married to a wonderful man, Chris, at Elmore Court in Gloucestershire. I had the honour of being one of her bridesmaids.
Wedding commissions are one of my favourite things to design. I get the opportunity to create a truly bespoke and personal gift. I often take inspiration from the wedding invitation, like a pattern detail or the location of the wedding.
When Lucy told me she had picked her wedding venue, my breath was taken away. Elmore Court is a stunning grade II listed mansion, think Downton Abbey, set in the glorious Gloucestershire countryside. As soon as I saw the gated entrance I knew that somehow I wanted to use this in my gift. Then when I received their beautiful Gee Brothers invitation I also wanted to feature the LC monogram. My dilemma was there were fantastic gifts on their wedding list! Lucy is a keen baker and I noticed that there was a gap on the list, so I decided to make a cake stand, with cake plates and tea cups and saucers. After playing with ideas I decided I wanted to create a design that wouldn't clash with the items on the list.
The end result was a repeat pattern inspired by the detail from the Elmore Court gates and, even if I do say so myself, I think it really works with the LC monogram.
