FANCY A CUP OF ROSY LEE?
In 2015, friends launched the Hackney Coffee Company, a cafe and event space in East London on the Hackney Road. The venue has hosted intimate events for big-named brands, musicians and some of London's best up-and-coming chefs - and it serves great coffee! I’ve had many caffeine fixes here and my oldest loves the croissants, which are basically the size of a toddler’s head. Pre-covid we came here for leisurely weekend brunches all the time.
I’ve always been more of a tea drinker. So when I found out they were launching a sister company, the East London Tea Co., I was keen to find out more and have a brew.
Brothers James and Jon Penn, founders of East London Tea Co., are on a mission to get the world drinking quality teas that are good for people's health and the planet, after experiencing the occupational hazard of drinking too much coffee themselves.
Making the switch from artisan coffee to tea was no easy feat. With the cafe as a springboard, James and Jon set about sourcing their own ingredients to make their own bespoke tea blends, working with a master tea taster to perfect them.
Due to the pandemic, the Hackney Coffee Company cafe has had periods of closure because of the nationwide restrictions, but James and Jon managed to work on behind the scenes to launch the East London Tea Co., and bring their blends of tea directly to their customers online and at the cafe alongside their Hackney Coffee Company products.
I’m so pleased to be able to offer a selection of the East London Tea Co. teas alongside my best selling tea bag tidies as gift sets.
If you ever find yourself on the Hackney Road, do pop into Hackney Coffee Company, they’re currently open daily for takeaway and have just started to open up their courtyard garden (heated and covered) on Fridays to Sundays with resident chefs Rogues London, with more to follow as restrictions start to lift.
